Abstract

An operating device for a door or hatch comprises a piston/cylinder assembly (4/1) which is operable hydraulically or pneumatically to effect relative reciprocation between the piston (4) and the cylinder (1) to open and close the door or hatch connected at 8. The device is capable also of manual operation by operation means (26, 30, 22, 21, 20, 9, 17, 18) which enables reciprocation between piston and cylinder for opening and closing the door or hatch. Although the invention is not restricted to a particular field it is particularly suitable for application to the opening and closing of doors and bulkhead hatches in sea vessels. <IMAGE>
