Abstract

A roll baler, for agricultural stalk crops, having a cylindrical pressing chamber (1) with an inlet (9) for crop to be baled and an outlet (4) for bale discharge, has cutting means (8), for cutting up crop to be baled, provided in the path of crop to be conveyed, especially by an elevator (6), to the inlet of the pressing chamber. Cutting up of the crop before baling promotes precompacting and higher density of the bale but also facilitates breaking up the bale for use. <IMAGE>
