Abstract
An apparatus for intermittently ventilating a patient with super-atmospheric pressure gas is provided. A cut- off valve for admitting or denying admission of the gas to the patient is controlled by a fluidically operated flip-flop which preferably has adjustable time delay relays. A cut-off mechanism operating on detection of accidental high airway pressure in the patient is preferably provided in the form of a monostable fluidic amplifier governing the flip-flop. Insufflation of a patient at respiratory rates of 600 per minute, but with a tidal, delta volume only about that of the dead space of the patient's lungs is possible.
