Abstract

Dynamos, regulating.- An alternating-current power transmission system comprises an alternator, the rotor of which is driven at a constant speed, and supplied with continuous-current through a commutator, the brushes of which are driven at a variable speed to vary the frequency of the current supplied to the motor. Means are provided to vary the degree of excitation of the alternator, and the speed and direction of rotation of the commutator brushes. The rotor 8 of an alternator G is driven at a constant speed by the prime-mover, and is provided with a commutator 9, the brushes 10, 11 of which are mounted on a support 12 driven through gearing by an electric motor 14. The brushes 10, 11 are connected to continuous-current mains 15, 16, to which the motor 14 is also connected through a reversing- switch p, and a regulating resistance 31. The rotor 8 is connected across the mains 15, 16 in series with a regulating resistance 38. When the driving motor M is of the synchronous type its rotor is supplied with current from the mains 15, 16 in series with a regulating resistance 34.
