Coal-cutting machines. - In a coalcutting machine with a laterally-fixed cutter-bar, the cutter-bar 5 is carried beneath the motor 1 and is driven by spur gearing 6 - - 9 arranged between the motor and the haulage-gear casing 2; the gearing is preferably contained in a separate compartment 3. The spur wheel 9 is slidable on the motor shaft 10 so that the drive may be disconnected.
