Abstract
197,211. Fells, G. May 29, 1922. Handles with clamping devices for brushes and mops; fixing by screwed sockets.-A spring clamp or holder for attaching brush-heads, mops, and the like to handles comprises two jaws a, b, Figs. 1 and 2, each formed from a single piece of wire; or in the modification shown in Figs. 3 and 4 the jaw b may be formed as a shorter loop to which a gripping plate c<2> is connected. The first wire is bent at its central portion to form a jaw a for engaging one edge of the head x<1>, and the ends are bent inwards at a<1> and formed into spring coils a<2>, the ends a<3> being attached to the flanges e, e<1> of a tubular socket e<2> to be fixed to the handle y. The second wire is bent similarly to form the jaw b, Figs. 1 and 2, the ends b<1> being attached to the socket without coiling. In the modification shown in Figs. 3. and 4, the loop b is engaged by one of the hooks c, c<1> formed on the plate c<2>. Gripping spikes c' are formed on the plate c<2>. The ends a<3>, b<1> may be attached to a ring or rings to form a skeleton socket; or they may be attached to a socket and the extreme ends turned inwards at different lengths to form an interrupted screw thread.
