Blasting-cartridges.-Cartridges of the kind in which the explosive charge is surrounded by a layer of extinguishing material are made as follows:- The explosive charge is placed in the middle of a cylindrical paper case pervious to water and closed at one end; the annular space between the charge and the case is filled with dry pulverulent extinguishing material mixed with a binding agent capable of setting with water, such as plaster, cement, or a silicate, the open end of the case is closed, and the whole is immersed in water for a certain length of time, and then removed to dry. Other methods of manufacture are disclaimed.
