Holding-tools. - A device for fitting or extracting valves and valve springs of internal combustion engines consists of a metal sleeve provided at one end with an internal shoulder a to form an abutment for one end of the valve spring d and at the other end with holes b to receive a U- shaped key c. For use in fitting a valve and spring on an engine, the valve spring and its retaining washer are placed within the sleeve and compressed by suitable means, such as a threaded bolt with a wing nut on each end, so that the U-shaped key c may be inserted through the holes b behind the valve spring washer, thus retaining the spring and washer in the sleeve. The latter are then positioned on the valve stem f as shown, and the cotter e inserted in said stem. By giving the engine a slight turn so that the valve cam raises the valve and spring, the key c may be withdrawn, leaving the sleeve and spring in position on the engine.
