Abstract
194,191. Yarrow, H. E. April 25, 1922. Controlling and moderating superheat; mounting and supporting superheaters.-For varying superheat, the superheater tubes are swung into different positions within the furnace setting of the boiler. The superheater drum D has compartments D<1>, D<2> carrying the U-shaped superheater tubes F. A steam supply pipe enters the drum through a stuffing-box H whereby the drum D can be rotated to change the position of the tubes F. In a modification, the drum is at the top of the boiler and the U tubes hang downwardly. Instead of a stuffing-box connection, the flange of the steam pipe may be connected to a flange on the drum through an intermediate fitting having different numbers of stud or bolt connections with these two flanges, so that on breaking the joints the drum may be reset in new positions.
