Seed distributors.-Manually-propelled apparatus comprises a furrow-forming tool, a seedcovering tool, a hopper, and an apertured disc controlling the outlet of the hopper and @ ated from a land-wheel. A resilient wire may be mounted in the hopper to ensure the feeding of the seeds through the apertures of the disc. The apparatus shown in Fig. 2 is provided with a framework 8 having connected with it wheel scrapers 11 and a socket 9 for a handle 10. The furrow-forming tool 13 is made of sheet-metal and of tapered channel shape. The hopper 15 is removably secured by brackets 14, and is divided into three compartments by vertical partitions. The rotary disc 19 is formed with three series of apertures of different sizes adapted to register intermittently with corresponding apertures in the hopper compartments. The disc is driven by means of peripheral teeth 19a engaging with a spoked disc 21 on one of the land-wheels 12. The seeds fall down a spout or funnel 22 and are covered by a plate 25 carried by arms 24 pivoted on the axle 23. The covering-plate 25 may be held in inoperative position by a chain and hook 26. One or more inclined rollers may be mounted behind the plate 25 or substituted for it. A chain and pin may be provided for locking the disc in position to close the hopper outlets. In one or more of the hopper compartments, a cranked wire 28 is fixed at the top and rests on the disc 19 so as to enter the apertures as the disc rotates. The wire may serve as a non-return pawl to prevent rotation in the reverse direction. In a modified apparatus for large seeds, a rotary perforated disc forms the bottom of an un-subdivided D-shaped hopper provided with an inclined plate for directing the seeds to the apertures. This hopper and disc may be substituted for those shown in Fig. 2. According to one of the Provisional Specifications, the furrow-forming tool is adjustable vertically, the seed-coverer consists of one or more fixed shares or blades, and a free-wheel clutch may be provided.
