Race games, mechanical.-Relates to apparatus for playing a race game of the type in which racing-members are caused to move along a course, means being provided to interrupt their progress, and comprises mounting each racing- member on a rotatable screw-threaded spindle in such a manner that the rotation of the spindle will cause the racing-member when unobstructed to advance, the spindles being rotated collectively and simultaneously. Each racing member V is supported by a plate N, which projects through a slot in the board A and is attached at its lower end to a sleeve K loosely mounted on a power- ' rotated screw C. An arm L is pivoted to the sleeve K and is pressed into engagement with the screw C by a spring M, but rides over the thread when the sleeve is arrested. Means for arresting the racing member may comprise a number of stops Q<1> mounted on a rod Q and adapted to engage a plate P on the sleeve. The rod Q may be rotated to release the members by pressing down a button T on to the bent end Q<4> of the rod, the releases being determined by dice or other chance means. Other means for intermittently arresting the racing members may comprise an oscillating comb-like member, the projections on which are adapted to engage the plate P during a part of the oscillation only, or an endless band carrying suitable projections may be arranged to cross the path of, and intermittently engage projections on, all the racing members. A pin R is adapted to be engaged at the starting position by a latch S<1> controlled by a lever S<3> carrying a starting gate S. According to the first Provisional Specification, the racing members may be propelled by cords wound on drums driven by a common shaft.
