Abstract

191,714. Metropolitan-Vickers Electrical Co., Ltd., (Assignees of Allen, R. C.). Jan. 13, 1922, [Convention date]. Combined-flow type; axial-flow type; blades.- In an elastic fluid turbine the blade space between the rotor and casing is shaped to change the mean direction of fluid flow gradually from an axial to a radial direction. The fluid passes through a velocity stage 14 and an axial-flow stage 12 having blades of gradually increasing length to an axial radial stage comprising wide rotor blades 19, 21 of substantially triangular form separated by stator blades 20 also of triangular form. The exit edges 23, 24 of the rotor blades are normal to the mean direction of flow of the fluid. Guiding-ribs 31 assist in changing the direction of flow of the fluid and prevent eddies.
