Abstract

191,669. Walker, E. L., and Verbeck, V. L. May 24, 1922. Screw propellers.- Laminated. propeller blades which are flexible both transversely and longitudinally are formed from laminµ having pockets, grooves, or shoulders which enable the laminµ to be interlocked and stiffened locally. Each blade comprises spring steel laminations 5, 6, 7. The small lamina 7 has a shoulder 11 which fits into a recess in the forward part 8 of the intermediate blade 6. Whilst the rear edge is limited by the projection 13. Similarly the middle lamina 6 has a tongue and groove connection 10 with the front edge of the main plate 5, and is limited at the rear edge by a shoulder 13. When in position, the three plates are bolted together at 14, 15. Longitudinal flexing is limited by shoulders 17 at the ends of interlocking parts. The ends of the blades are dovetailed into arms 2 on the boss 1, the latter having a rear security and a forward cone 24.
