Abstract

1352. Tyler, S. F., and Beere, W. J. E. Jan. 27. [Cognate Application, 11,773/15.] Contacts; push-button switches; switches, actuating.-In electric turning-gear the circuits are controlled in one arrangement by a switch which moves over two stops in succession. The switch arm, on its return movement, is lifted over the first stop by a detent so as not to contact therewith. In a modification, the switch comprises a button R which is depressed to complete a circuit round a relay L and attract the armature L<3>. A battery is then connected to the motor through a hold-on coil L<2>, which keeps the circuit closed until the engine speed is sufficient to generate a high back-electromotive force in the motor. The spring L<4> then moves the relay armature. The button R, when depressed, at first carries with it the switch member M<1>, and the relay circuit is momentarily completed through the flex Q, the member M<1>, detents M<3>, spring blades 0, and contact M<2>. When the spring blades enter the recess M<4> in the contact M<2> they are compressed, and the detents release the member M<1> which is then retracted by the springs P, so that on the return of the press button, the relay circuit cannot be completed.
