Lateral-splash guards for the wheels of road vehicles comprise a flexible strip 2 carried by a frame or clamp 1 in a plane parallel with the wheel, the frame or clamp being mounted at each end by a pin-and-slot connexion 4, 10 on a bracket 3 upon the vehicle in such a manner that the frame is capable of a rotary movement about either pin and also of moving upwards as a whole upon both pins. In order to permit of these two movements the outer side 19 of each slot may be cut vertical and the inner side as an arc of a circle having as centre the pin at the opposite end. Springs 14 between depending parts 13 and the upper end of the frame tend to keep the guard down. In order to provide a guard behind the wheel the strip 2 is cut at 16, passed through to the back of the frame 1, and carried round by a bracket 15 secured to the rear end of this frame. The flexible strip is splayed outwards as it approaches the road surface by inwardlycurved metal strips 17 which pass through slits 18 in the strip and are secured to the upper and lower members of the frame 1. The strip may be secured to the frame at other places, such as to the front and rear members 9 and to the bracket 15.
