Abstract

6859. Herrmann, F. A. March 18. Collectors. - Current collectors or contact rollers a for use in connexion with travelling wires, bands, &c., have a circumferential surface a little wider than the cross-section of the wire &c., and are provided on both sides with insulating guard disks b of a diameter substantially larger than that of the rollers. The edges of the disks b are tapered inwardly as shown in order to guide the wires &c. on to the rollers a. Hooks or catches c on the inside of the disks b engage with the spokes of the rollers a, a backward rotation of the disks causing the catches to be disengaged. In a modification the disks b are supported by the hub of the roller and the catches c dispensed with. The rollers are carried by a fork e which is clamped to a conducting-bar g, and one prong is pivoted and slotted to engage the axle of the roller as shown, so that the roller may be removed from the fork by swinging aside the hinged prong. In a modification, the whole fork is pivoted to its supporting-pin w so that it can swing upwardly, stops being provided to limit its downward movement. The contact rollers are used in connexion with the electro-plating of wires &c.
