Abstract

Guards. - The flat knife guards arranged at the side of the knives of meat-slicing-machines are movably mounted on the frame so as to be readily accessible for cleaning purposes. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the guard 1 carries two vertical pins 2, 3 engaging sockets 16, 7 in brackets attached to the frame. The guard is held up by a spring 13 arranged in the upper or lower socket, and is normally prevented from turning by engaging a diametral slot in the underside of the socket 7. When it is desired to clean the guard, it is lowered by pressing the lever 6, and can then be swung about the pivots 2, 3. The socket 7 is adjustable towards and away from the knife C by removing the nut 10, and two sockets 16 at different distances from the knife are provided. The guard may be locked in position by removable vertical pins, by a spring catch, or by a verticallysliding forked bar. In another form, shown in Fig. 12, the guard 1 is swung about an horizontal pivot 37 and is held in place against the bracket 9 by a flynut 39, or by an arm pivoted to the bracket. The guard shown in Fig. 18 is pivoted on a pin 51 and is arranged to swing in the plane of the knife C, being held in place by a swing- bolt 55 and nut 57. The guard may be removed bodily by lifting the square pin 53 from a socket 54.
