Abstract

15,310. Pickett, R. July 3. Feeding carding-engines &c.-In apparatus of the type in which the cotton is conveyed upwards on an inclined toothed belt and is acted upon by a second toothed belt, approximately parallel to the first, but moving in the opposite direction, the first belt is of open construction and passes over a grid through which air is drawn by a fan. The belt A, comprising laths M on which are mounted the teeth N, passes upward over the surface of a grid forming one side of a suction box D. The bars L of the grid are arranged to direct the currents of air to the two pipes E, F leading to the tan G, and the apertures are arranged to diminish in size towards the top of the grid. The laths M are provided with flat under surfaces and slide closely over the grid, acting as valves to the openings, which may be covered with perforated material. The teeth on the belt A are inclined with their points in advance of their bases, while the teeth on the second belt H are approximately perpendicular to the belt or inclined with their bases in advance of their points. The belt A is arranged to move faster than the belt H.
