Abstract

Latches, swinging; clamps, eccentric.-A door or gate is fastened by means of a cam a pivotally mounted on the edge of the door and adapted frictionally to engage the bottom of a recess p in the door-frame. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the cam is mounted on a spindle c journaled in a casing e and adapted to be operated, to release the cam, by means of a follower i the arms h of which engage inclines g on a plate f secured to the spindle. The movement is controlled by gravity or by a spring m. In the modification shown in Fig. 5, a weighted handle m is secured directly to the cam a. In a further construction, a vertically sliding rod s, Fig. 5, is adapted to act on an arm t on the cam to disengage this from the recess p. Preferably, the cam is arranged to touch the top as well as the bottom of the recess p. In Fig. 6, a construction is shown in which the cam is vertically adjustable.
