Abstract

16,064. Bragg, G. J. July 11. Cutting and slicing vegetables &c. - In a machine for splitting and peeling fruit, particularly applicable for treating bananas in the green state, the fruit is passed down a shoot to spring - mounted geared rollers 6, which deliver it between a pair of rotary cutters 2 in the correct position for being divided longitudinally into halves, the split fruit afterwards being passed down diverging shoots 11 to pulp-gathering heads 12 comprising blunt blades 15 inserted in skeleton cylinders. The fruit is pressed against the blades by rotary drums 17 so that the pulp is divided into short lengths and passes between the blades into the interior of the cylinders, while the peel remains on the surface of the blades until it is removed by a stripping-blade 18. The rotary cutters 2 may be positively driven or rotated by the weight of the fruit assisted by a slight push given by the operator.
