Abstract

14,006. Atkinson, E. H. June 13. Treadle mechanism for velocipedes, of the kind in which reciprocating bands pass from treadle-levers at the usual crank bracket to spring-returned free-wheel clutch members upon either side of the wheel hub, is provided with snail-shaped pieces C fixed as by arms A<3> to the levers, the flat bands D being fixed at A<4> to the snail-pieces, and by hooks F<2>, Fig. 4, to the clutch members F. The return springs are enclosed in removable trays H each of which is connected by a pin and slot to the clutch member F, the inner end of the spring being turned over to engage a hook L upon the bearing-cone L<2> and the outer end turned outwards and provided with a spring hinge-piece to engage the tray. The levers are mounted upon separate axles arranged upon ball bearings within the bracket, the inner ends of the axles being supported by a sleeve disposed within the bracket. Stops O, P are provided upon the levers and snail-pieces respectively.
