Abstract

Overlap joints with packing at base of socket; couplings with union nuts.-In fire and like hose couplings, a ball race is arranged on the tailpiece to correspond with one on the union nut, and the balls are arranged between a circumferential ridge on a detachable threaded ring or sleeve secured to the tail-piece and a circular abutment on the tail-piece. The device may be assembled as shown in Fig. 1, with the balls g between the union nut c and a race f screwed on to a threaded projecting part c of the tailpiece a the flange d serves as an abutment for the end of the hose-pipe, but this part may be screwed on to the tail-piece separately; or the race f can be made integral with a sleeve which screws into the tail-piece.
