Insect traps; animals, catching and destroying. -Appliances for placing round plants, to protect them from slugs, snails, beetles, &c., comprise troughs or other receptacles a for salt, soot, fluid, &c., metal or earthenware walls b of sufficient depth below the troughs to prevent beetles &c. from passing through the ground, and a roof or cover c for protecting the salt &c. The troughs &c. are made of various shapes, and in one or more pieces, according to the space to be enclosed. In a modification, the trough is separate from the wall and cover. In another form, the trough is supported by the cover.
