Butt joints.-Relates to a portable breathing- apparatus of the regenerative type in which the absorbent chamber a and the oxygen cylinder o can be replaced by others very speedily. The case a is formed with conicallyshaped ends which, until the case is fitted to the apparatus, are tightly closed by elastic washers and metal covers held down by metal loops soldered to the case and the covers. The case is mounted by wrenching away the covers, fitting the ends to sockets e, Fig. 7, on a frame c, Fig. 5, and pressing down the pivoted crosspiece d of the frame by an eye-bolt f and a screw f<1>. A gas-tight joint which permits of some oscillation is made by placing rubber disks h, i, Fig. 7, having projections h<1>, i<1>, between the flange e' of each socket and an elastic washer g.
