13,795. Hake, F. D. June 11. Platen machines; gripper mechanism.-Platen presses are fitted with readily adjustable wire gripper attachments to hold the sheets securely during printing. The grippers consist of wire rods F, which are shaped to suit various requirements and are secured in slots in slides E, which are adjustably secured to bevelled frisket fingers C bolted to a frisket B and to an arm D secured to the fingers C by means of integral or riveted clips b formed with bevelled edges, as shown in Fig. 4, so as to slide on the bevelled sides of the fingers C. The arm D is held in position by means of bevelled clamping-blocks d secured by means of thumbscrews e, which pass through slots f in the clips b. The slides E are secured in position by clamps similar to the clamps d, and an upper slotted bar G is similarly attached to the fingers C, this bar being formed with a notched lower edge p to grip the sheets, and being provided with sliding blocks h<1> in which gripper rods F are secured. The rods F are secured in cross apertures in the slides by means of screws m, the apertures being integral with slots in the faces of the slides, the rods being arranged to lie flush with the faces of the slides. The rods F may have flattened ends, and in some cases they may have inner pointed ends which engage a milled edge on an arm C to secure the corresponding slide in position.
