Abstract

7454. Stewart, W. J. May 28, 1908. Piles ; p i l e s, driving. - Relates to the method of driving hollow reinforced concrete piles by means of a driver acting within the pile, and formed with projections engaging with projections on the interior surfaces of the pile. The improvements comprise the use of segmental projections 11, Fig. 1, on the driver, and corresponding segmental projections 10 on the pile, or, as an alternative, pivoted levers 13, Fig. 4, which are separated by means of disks 15 on a rod 16, may be caused to engage with shoulders 12, on which are placed cushions 6. A collapsible shoe, Fig. 7, may be employed in combination with these drivers. This comprises arms 19, to which a light mantle 22 is temporarily secured, and movably pivoted to the driver by means of pivots 21 running in slots 20. When the driver is withdrawn, the mantle 22 is left in the ground, the disk 23 rises into a cavity, and the arms 19 collapse. The driver may be constructed of T-irons, Fig. 6, bolted or riveted together and carrying collars or projections, not shown. Specification 28,269/07 is referred to.
