3633. Brownlow, R. J. Feb. 15. Pleating. - Machines for running draw-cords through curtains and like fabrics are provided with arrangements whereby the distance between the draw-cords, and also the length of the stitches, can be varied. On the shaft c is mounted a toothed cylinder f, which gears with one pair of long or two pairs of short toothed feed - rollers g, g<1> which again gear with two other pairs of toothed rollers, h, h<1>. A pair of pinions j, gearing with these rollers, drives two pairs of delivery rollers k, all the rollers being grooved circumferentially at g<2>, h<2>, and k<2> respectively at convenient intervals to receive the needles i, which have semicircular curves to rest in the grooves k<2> of the rollers k. The head p of the machine is vertically adjustable, by. means of the screw q and the binding-screw r, to allow of the insertion of the needles, and is provided with a slide s carrying a jaw s<1>, adjustable by means of the screw t, and a fixed jaw s<2>. The movable jaw carries one set of the upper feed rollers h, h<1>, k and by means of the screw t the distance between the two sets, and consequently the distance between the cords, may be varied as desired. The length of stitch may be varied by substituting for rollers g, h, rollers having different depths of teeth. When three needles are to be used, an additional adjustable jaw is provided together with a third set of rollers h, h<1>, k and a further pinion j, the rollers g, g<1>, k being increased in length to accommodate them.
