Abstract

Coils and conductors; dampers and shortcircuited screens on cores.-In rotors for dynamoelectric machines wherein the end windings are supported by extended slot wedges, the ends of the wedge-extensions are turned up into a cylindrical spigot so as to fit into an annular recess or socket in a disc or end-plate fixed to the rotor. If the windings are not evenly distributed around the periphery, shallow slots may be cut in the intervening iron portions to accommodate additional wedges. The wedges E, Fig. 1, may be divided at the centre e<2> to prevent the circulation of eddy currents, and the turned ends e<1> are held by annular rings F bolted to extensions b<1> of the end ring B. To give the necessary strength and to suit the shape of the windings, the cross-sectional area of the extended wedges E<3> may be graduated as shown in Fig. 5. 'In a modification, Fig. 6, the wedges E<4> are secured by binding-wire e<3>, and the ends rest on the periphery of the ring F'. Figs. 13 and 14 show the application of the invention to a salient-pole rotor, in which closed slots G<2> are cut in the coreplates A<2>, and bars E<8> are inserted to support the coils D<4>; open slots may be used. The extended wedges may act as damping circuits and ventilating fans.
