Abstract

8408. Haldkjaer, G. F. April 21. Moulding drainpipes.-Relates to a press for producing four pipes at a time. The plunger 2 is raised by hydraulic pressure on the piston 53, and lowered by pressure on the pistons 19, 20. When the plunger has completed a set of tubes and is in its lowest position, it opens supply to the cylinder of the piston 53 and exhaust from the others, so that it rises to its highest position and in so doing actuates two levers, not shown, and raises slides at the sides of the clay-receiving chamber 50. These slides in their upward movement operate controlling- cocks, so that the feed pistons of cylinders 5, one on each side of the chamber 50, are driven forwards and force clay into the chamber, whence it falls into the pressure chamber 7. When the plunger 2 is to be brought down, the cock 14 is opened by the handle 60, and the plunger then descends until the clay is pressed through annular orifices into moulds 27 and about the cores 9, which, with the table 8, are in their highest position. During this movement, a tappet 15 acting on a lever 17 and cross-bar 18 has opened and closed the necessary valves for the withdrawal of the feed-pistons from the chamber 50, the slides have returned to normal position, and a system of levers has automatically closed the valve 14. By actuating a lever 35 the two halves of the moulds 27 are separated to free the moulded sockets ; the handle 60 is then again operated to open the valve 14, whereupon the plunger 2 further descends, pressing down the table 8 and cover 9, and extending the tubes. The length of the tubes is determined by the contact of an adjustable rod 40 with the lever 41, which again closes the valve 14 and stops the descent of the plunger 2. The tubes are finally cut off by a wire on a sliding frame and removed, and the table 8, rising under the influence of its counterweights, brings the cover 9 into the moulds 27, which are closed and locked by the action of the roller 33 on the lever 35.
