Abstract

Steam-generator furnaces.-The dead-plate, grate bars, and firebridge forming a downdraught furnace are made hollow and connected with the boiler in order that water may be circulated through them. Fig. 2 shows one arrangement, in which the deadplate is represented at D, supported on studs s, the grate at T, and the rear communication with the boiler at a<1>. The connection a' is surrounded by refractory material to form the bridge. Various modifications in detail may be adopted.
