Abstract

189,342. Rothmund, G., and Kohlschutter, E. W. Nov. 19, 1921. Fabrics with multiple superposed coatings; treatment prior to coating.-Fabric which has been saturated with rubber solution is dried in air and coated with a paste of rapidly vulcanizing india-rubber mixture which is afterwards dried at moderate heat without damaging the fabric. The fabric is then coated with rapidly vulcanizing rubber which is then vulcanized at a moderate heat. The solution of rubber may comprise a 3 per cent solution of varnish, waste from balata or caoutchouc masses, oil residues known as bottom still, or asphalt, dissolved in benzol or like solvent. The rubber mixture contains a vul-- canization accelerator such as urea, or thiourea in combination with litharge, lead, red lead or magnesia, or nitrosodimethyl-aniline in combination with zinc oxide which tends to act as a preservative particularly against tropical influences.
