Abstract
209,528. Barnes, J. E. L., (Miller Rubber Co.). July 15, 1922. Vulcanizing.-Rubber articles are vulcanized by incorporating with the rubber compound one of two ingredients which, in the presence of heat, will coact to effect vulcanization, applying the other ingredient to the surface of the rubber compound and applying heat to cause the surface ingredient to penetrate the mass and so effect vulcanization. Sulphur may be incorporated with the rubber compound, and an accelerator, such as the compounds of aliphatic amines or piperidine with carbon disulphide, applied to the surface, or vice-versa. The surface ingredient may be in powder form mixed with starch powder. When goods are made by the dipped process, one of the ingredients may be incorporated in the rubber solution and the other dusted on the surface. When the accelerator is water soluble, the sulphur-bearing rubber compound may be immersed in a hot aqueous solution of accelerator to effect vulcanization. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 174,915.
