Abstract

188,570. Lumsden, R., and Cooke, H. E. Dec. 20, 1921. Sliding-jaw wrenches.- In worm adjustment wrenches of the kind in which provision is made for rapid adjustment of the movable jaw by mounting the worm in a bracket pivoted to the movable jaw so that the worm may be swung laterally out of operative engagement with the rack on the shank, the worm 12 is rotatable on a pin 13 carried in the arms of a bracket 7 hinged on a pin 8 in a rectangular opening 6 of the movable jaw 3, said bracket being swung laterally to disengage the worm from the rack 5 on the shank 1 of the fixed jaw 2 for rapid adjustment of the movable jaw. A spring-pressed ball 18 engages a recess 16 in the bracket for normally maintaining the worm in operative engagement with the rack. The shank 1 is provided with a stop 21 to prevent entire removal of the movable jaw and with a scale 22 enabling the wrench to be used as a. calliper indicating the size of an object gripped between the jaws.
