Abstract
187,923. Pittacos, B. D., and Andricopoulos, G. I. May 26, 1922. Deflectable axle-ends and intermediate connections therefor. -Comprises means for connecting together the swivelling axles of motor vehicles by alternative sets of linkwork, either of which can be used at will, so that (1) for ordinary steering the axles are connected in the normal way, and (2) for very sharp turns the axles are connected in such a manner that the vehicle can turn about one only of the rear wheels. The swivelling- axles are pivoted at S to the fixed axle and are provided with pairs of arms E F, G I fixed rigidly to the e respective swivelling-axles. An additional arm H fixed to one axle is connected to the usual operating gear. The arms F, I are connected by the usual link D, and the arms E, G are connected by links B, C and an unequalarmed lever M pivoted at Q. The arms E, F are connected to their respective links B, D by means P, R locked when desired by Bowden cable mechanism operated by the driver. When the arm F is connected to the link D the steering is normal, and a pin on the arm E slides in a slot in the connection P; for very sharp tuins the conditions are reversed, the arm E is connected at P to the link B, and the connection R is released, a pin on the arm F sliding in a slot in R.
