Coupling and capping. -A grip socket for steel ropes for hauling and lifting comprises a socket C formed with an end E, which may be attached to coal tubs &c. by a shackle or link, and studs A<1>, A<2> screwed into bosses D on opposite. sides of the socket and adapted to kink the end of a rope placed within the socket into slot holes B. The end of the rope is lapped with soft wire, and two sockets connected by a link &c. may be used to repair a broken hauling-rope.
