Abstract
186,404. Butler. J., and Kauri Timber Co., Ltd. June 23, 1921. Materials, special, for boxes.-A composite panel for boxes &c. comprises a frame 2 having secured to one or each side thereof the marginal portions of a veneer or thin wooden sheet the central portion of which is flat and the veneer or either or both of the two veneers being indented or impressed inwardly towards the opposite side of the frame. A panel comprising two veneers 4, 5 is illustrated, the marginal portions of the veneers being spaced apart by the frame 2 which provides a thickened portion for nailing while the central portions 7 of the veneers lie flat against each other forming a two-ply centre portion; one of the veneers may be wholly flat. The veneers are secured together and to the frame by adhesive coatings or staples &c., or by staples &c. and adhesive, and the veneers have their grain running at right-angles to each other.
