185,762. Billon, M., and Dufay, F. Sept. 12, 1921, [Convention date]. Tools; tool-holders.-A self-rotating lathe tool for high cutting speeds comprises a tubular cutting portion 1, Fig. 1, having a number of inclined end surfaces 2 and secured to a member, 4 which is mounted in grooved bearings 5, 5<1> in a tool-holder 6 and abuts against a washer 11 adjustable by a screw 12. The tool is rotated by the tangential reaction exerted during cutting, a screw 7 serving to control the rotation by adjusting the pressure of the bearings on the member 4. In a modification, Fig. 6, a hollow conical-ended tool 1 is secured to a member running on rollers 14 and provided with a screwed tail-piece 15 mounted on n ball-bearing 16, 17.
