Abstract

184,667. Walton, C. C., and Walton, J. N. July 18, 1921. Grates.-A grate for cooking-stoves comprises a front fixed portion 3 behind which is a space a occupied by an horizontally sliding plate 2; should the fire become too great the sliding plate 2 is wholly or partly withdrawn so as to dump the fuel upon it, and at the same time to leave an opening for the draught which causes the fire on the grate 3 to be damped. In the construction shown the plate slides in a frame 4 and is operated by handles c. The grate is intended especially for stoves having shallow boiling or cooking-pans such as that shown in Fig. 1; the ash-pit doors h of this stove are mounted to slidelaterally on a rod m.
