Abstract

183,943. Fitzgerald, F. W. V. May 5, 1921. Blood, treating. -- The fluidity of blood is preserved or its coagulation retarded by the addition to it while still liquid of a quantity of a neutral or alkaline solution of an oxalate or fluoride such as ammonium oxalate or sodium fluoride, the proportions being, for one gallon of blood, at least 7 grains of oxalic acid rendered slightly alkaline by addition of ammonia, or at least 3<1>/3 grains of anhydrous sodium fluoride or equivalent. The means employed may be used separately or in combination, and if desired a preservative may be added. The application of the process in the production of a substitute for vulcanite, horn, or the like is mentioned.
