Abstract
183,608. Harper, R. O. May 5, 1921. Sheet-metal frames; frame componends, applying and combining; radius-rods; wheel forks and like structures.-Comprises the general construction of a small motor vehicle having rear driving wheels and a front steering wheel. The combined body and framework consist of a floor and two side walls d connected at the front by a casting or pressing g carrying the front steering fork or column and at the rear by a petrol tank. The rearward part of the casting &c. g forms a footboard, and a ledge g<4> at the front serves for the attachment of the floor p<1> of a luggage, tool &c. compartment p. The casting &c. g is also provided with a bearing for a steering column i, the lower end of which carries springs k forming a wheel fork. The rotation of the column is limited by a projection l<1> engaging stops l<2> on the casting &c. g. The petrol tank connects the upper rear parts of the side members and is made from a single bent sheet and two side pieces. The single sheet is also extended to form a pendent stay which is connected to the side walls and floor. A transverse flat cross member or board a is secured to the side. members and extends beyond them so as to carry on one side the engine m, which may be moved longitudinally by nuts m<3> to adjust the tension in the chain driving the change gear from which motion is tramsmitted to the rear axle. Adjustable radius rods q con nect the axle to the frame.
