Abstract

183,174. Taylor, E. J. Feb. 21, 1921. Moulding wheel tyres.- A tyre is formed by fitting spaced rubber blocks 6 in the bottom of a mould having relatively movable walls. The blocks are retained in spaced relationship by transverse cores 4, and flexible inextensible bands of bias cut woven fabric 8 with circumferentially interwoven cords 9 are built up over the blocks and cores; a second series of blocks 10 is then assembled in staggered relationship to the first series, a further band &c. being superimposed. The tread cushion is then applied, the mould forcibly closed, and the tyre vulcanized. The mould for forming the tyres comprises a ring 2, side-walls 1 having holes 3 for the passage of transverse metal cores 4, and a divided outer mould 15 for shaping the tyre tread. Removable flange rims 5 are provided between the outer sides of the ring and the half-moulds.
