182,876. Carney, H. A. April 2, 1921. Alternating - c u r r e n t motors.-To maintain the power factor of an alternating-current system when a motor is connected to the system A, B. C., switches D and Q, which may be mechanically coupled in such a manner that switch D closes before switch Q, are provided and the contact-arms H', H<2> of autotransformers are placed on the contacts 6, 6<1>. The arms H<1>, H<2> are moved to give a higher ratio of transformation as the switch Q is closed. A condenser J<3> may be inserted at starting and be short-circuited during normal running.
