Abstract

181,809. Carpmael, M. P., (Bagley & Sewall Co.). March 17, 1921. Fourdrinier paper-machines.-In apparatus for carrying out the method of making paper described in Specification 181,140, a pool 10 is maintained by a head of pulp in the flow box 7 in which the quantity of water is adjusted to the thickness of the paper to be made. A resistance surface over which the pulp flows may comprise an apron 11, Fig. 2, extending forwardly to a greater distance centrally than at the sides as shown. The resistance surface may consist of a board arranged forward of the breast roll 1, and beneath the wire, or the slice 9 may be arranged in the rear of the centre of the breast roll, and the surface of the breast roll used for the purpose. Where a large quantity of water is used, the wire cloth may be arranged to run uphill from the breast roll to give the water more opportunity to drain from the stock.
