Controllers with overload release; safety arrangements. - Relates to motor starters provided with means for automatically altering the setting of an overload device when the starter is moved from one running position to another, and consists in arranging a starter of this kind with a separate main switch adapted to be tripped open when the overload device responds. In one modification, a threephase motor - starter having two positions, in the first of which connections are made through contacts A, B<1> and A<1>, B<2>, and in the second of which connections are made through contacts A, B only, is arranged so that in the first position, overload coils S are energized from tappings H on starting auto-transformers E, while in the second position, the overload coils are energized directly from the mains. The overload response de-energizes a no-volt coil F controlling a separate circuit-breaker G. In other modifications, the overload rating is varied by varying the air gap or spring tension of an electromagnet armature.
