Abstract
175,857. Manz, J. Jan. 5. 1921. No Patent granted (Sealing fee not paid). Lighting-torches, non-electric.-In a lighter for cigars &c. of the type comprising a spirit-container into which is inserted a torch carrying a striking-pin adapted to be withdrawn and ignited by rubbing against a strip of phosphoric material, a spring-actuated device for automatically closing the container when the torch is withdrawn is provided. As shown in Fig. 2, the closing-device consists of a flap c hinged to a plate b secured within the container a and actuated by a spring b<1> surrounding the hinge-pin so as to close, when the torch is withdrawn, the opening through which the torch is inserted. Alternatively, as shown in Fig. 5, a flap g, similarly actuated, may be provided on the outside of the container, the flap being held open, when the torch is in position, by the handle.
