Thermionic amplifiers and detectors.-In order to avoid distortion effects arising from the use of transformers or the like in coupling a thermionic valve to a glow detector, the detecting-device g is placed across the high - tension supply E in parallel with the plate-filament path of the valve. Signal impulses applied to the grid of the amplifier k give rise to corresponding but reversed current-changes through the glow-tube g, and these may be recorded photographically. Coupling and regulating resistances W1, W2 and a condenser c are inserted, as shown; or the detector g may be connected directly across the plate-filament circuit of the amplifier k, the separate regulating-resistance w2 and condenser c then being omitted. Several amplifiers may be used.
