Abstract

171,239. Smith, W. H. Sept. 9, 1920. Flax - pulling machines. - A machine fcr pulling flax comprises one or more sets of grippers mounted in rotary frames arranged on the platform of a sheaf-binding reaper or other machine. The gripper frames j are mounted in an inclined flame g attached to the platform frame a of the reaper in place of the cutting-apparatus. They are driven from a shaft h by bevel gearing and inclined spindes. The V-shaped grippers w move in slots in the frames j and in radial projections u under the control of springs z. The flax is guided to the grippers by single and double guides q, r, the latter forming abutments against which the flax is pressed by the grippers. It is delivered on to the travelling - platform b by guides t and conveyer belts p.
