Packeting by wrapping - - up. - Comprises a machine for moulding and cutting butter, mar. garine, &c. into uniform pieces and wrapping up the pieces. The material issues from a press 1 as a bar 2 which is divided into lengths a, b by a pivoted cutter 3, the lengths passing down over rollers 8 into contact with a pivoted flap 9 controlled through a rod 14 by a cam 11 and spring 15. A knife 17, reciprocated in guides 16 by a cam 18 and spring 22 acting upon a lever 20. severs the material into pieces which are transferred by grippers 29 on arms 28 to wrapping receptacles 40 arranged on a chain conveyer 3R. The arms 28 are slidably but non-rotatably mounted on a shaft 26 which is rocked by a cam groove 25 engaging an arm 31. Springs 30, Fig. 3, press the arms 28 towards each other to cause the grippers to engage the piece of material. A wedge 37, mounted on a shaft 35, Fig. 1, rocked by a cam 33 and springs 38<a>, separates the arm. 28 upon their return movement. The receptacles 40 are open-ended and each comprise a rigid base 39 and front wall 40 and a pivoted rear wall 41 carrying a roller 43 adapted to be engaged by a reciprocating member 48 to close the rear wall after the reception of the piece of material which carries into the receptacle a sheet of wrapping- paper 51 supported upon rails 50. To prevent adhesion of the butter, &c., the flap 9, knife 17, rollers 8, and grippers 29, are covered with parchment paper.
