169,604. Elliston, E. R. Aug. 21, 1920. Cage and platform lifts.-The rope, chain, or band pulley of a service lift is driven through friction-gearing by an electromotor. The shaft 8 of the motor 7 carries a drum 9 which engages a friction wheel 6, such as a bicycle wheel, mounted on the same shaft as the pulley 4. The motor is mounted on a plate 10, which is pivoted at 11 to the base 1. A brake-block 16 carried by a pivoted arm 14 is raised out of contact with the rim of the wheel 6 when the motor is running owing to the attraction of the armature 13 by the electromagnet 12, which is in circuit with the motor.
