Abstract

169,272. Brand, H. June 22, 1920. Spray carburettors.-A carburettor having a main nozzle 15, a starting-nozzle 18, and one or more intermediate nozzles 16, 16<1>, is provided with an annular air passage 23 which terminates at its upper end near the throttle valve 3 and near the outlet from a channel 17 containing the intermediate nozzle, or the outermost 16 of the inter mediate nozzles when there is more than one. The passage 23 is formed between the central cylindrical wall 4 of the float chamber 5 and a double conical choke tube 6 which is positioned by ribs 6<1>, 6<11>. Fuel is supplied from the float chamber 5 to the nozzles through an opening 10, a calibrated interchangeable nozzle 11, a pipe 12, and vertical passages 13, 14, 14<1>, 19. The starting-nozzle 18 is supplied with air through inlets 21, 21<1>, and the vertical fuel-passages 13, 14, 14<1> may communicate with one another through horizontal passages, as shown for example at 22. Air inlets 17<1>, 17" lead from the annular passage 23 to the channel 17. As the throttle is opened, the nozzles are brought into action in succession in the order 18, 16, 16<1>, 15, the fuel supply of the nozzle, in action being actuated by air drawn in through the nozzles not in action.
